FedEx BCS National Championship Scores: Florida Gators Drop Oklahoma Sooners for Title
Tim Tebow was 18/30 passing for 231 yards and two touchdowns and added 109 yards rushing, Percy Harvin collected 122 yards on the ground and a TD on nine carries and the Florida Gators (13-1) offense converted 12-17 third down attempts to beat the Oklahoma Sooners (12-2) 24-14 in the BCS national championship for their second FedEx BCS title in the past three years.
After a scoreless first quarter Tebow put the Gators on the board with a 20-yard touchdown pass to Louis Murphy but the Sooners answered with a touchdown drive of their own as Sam Bradford found Jermaine Gresham on a 6-yard TD toss to even the score and the 7-7 tie held till the half.
Florida reclaimed the lead in the third quarter when Harvin scored on a 2-yard run to put the Gators in front 14-7 but the Sooners tied the game early in the fourth when Bradford and Gresham hooked up for the second time on an 11-yard touchdown.
The Gators answered the Sooners score with a Jonathan Phillips 27-yard field goal and on Oklahoma’s next possession Bradford was picked off, setting up the game-clinching drive for Florida. With just under ten minutes left in the game Tebow drove the Gators 76 yards, capping the drive with a 4-yard touchdown pass to David Nelson with 3:07 left in the game.
Florida’s defense then stopped the Sooners on a 4th and 4 with 2:26 on the clock and that was the game.
After five games scoring more than 60 points the Sooners offense was limited to 363 yards of total offense and intercepted Bradford twice.
