Nicolas Cage may go under investigation for child abuse

By: Daun Lee

People magazine reported that actor Nicolas Cage may find himself in the middle of another controversy, this time allegations of child abuse. The possible charges stem from the widely publicized fight Cage had with his wife, Alice Kim, in New Orleans on April 16th. When police arrived to diffuse the argument between Cage and Kim, they witnessed him drop their 5 year old son, who scrapped his left knee. At the time Police determined there was no risk for child abuse, but Child Protective Services may still investigate Cage.

On the night in question, Cage was very inebriated, according to his wife and the police, who were called to the scene. After picking up their son from a friend house the couple continued to argue and Cage accidentally dropped the child, who he was holding. Neither Child Protective Services nor representatives for Cage have made a statement about the alleged abuse investigation.

The report filed by police stated that Cage ‘appeared heavily intoxicated, displayed slurred/loud speech and was belligerent.” Intoxication affects a person’s ability to react quickly in any situation, especially behind the wheel of a car. In this particular incident, Cage’s intoxication most likely caused him to drop his child; he was not driving during the time in question

To keep the roads safe, many people will be charged with a DUI, which is hard to deal to challenge without a DUI attorney. There is a no tolerance policy enacted by many states to keep people safe from drunk or drugged drivers. The consequences of a DUI can be severe, but a DUI lawyer can work to reduce those for a client.
