Battle of the Sexes in Golf Set for September

The Battle of the Sexes is coming to the sport of golf in September with the inaugural national championship of the U.S. Putting Tour taking place in Carlsbad, California at The Crossings.

This tournament pits men against women to find America's Best Putter. There are no divisions and no handicaps. Every golfer plays on an equal footing with the others. In addition, amateurs compete against professionals and golfers of all ages play together.

"We know that women can't hit the ball as far as men do," said U.S. Putting Tour President, Jim Hartley. "But they can putt just as well; so it will be interesting to see who comes out on top in our putting championship."

Men and women will compete for a first prize of $10,000, although amateur golfers also will be in the running for the title and the USPT Championship trophy.

A total of 72 golfers will advance from four days of first round play at the U.S. Putting Tour Championship into Championship Sunday on October 2. These golfers will play 36 holes on Sunday morning, after which there will be a cut to the low 24 scores. The remaining 24 competitors will play another 36 holes on The Crossings's12-hole putting green to determine the winner.

Golfers can enter the putting championship now by going to the U.S. Putting Tour website. PGA club professionals also can hold putting events at their clubs to qualify themselves and winners for the championship.
