Academic Summer Camps Filling an Education Void

Students aren't getting the well-rounded learning and life skills development in school that they need to improve their grades, prepare for college and ultimately succeed in a career.

Academic summer camps are filling a void that budget cuts and unmotivated teachers are creating in schools, according to the head of a leading academic summer program in the U.S.

With parents desperate to prepare their sons and daughters for college with better grades and more well-rounded skills in the areas of leadership, communication, time management and goal-setting, summer enrichment programs such as SuperCamp are coming to the rescue.

"The results speak for themselves," says Chicka Elloy, Programs Manager at SuperCamp. "Independent studies show that 73 percent of SuperCamp grads improve their grades the year following camp and over 80 percent develop more confidence."

This growth in confidence, along with higher self-esteem and increased motivation, two other results identified in the study, contribute to a student's ability to focus and succeed in school.

SuperCamp runs programs for middle school and high school students nationwide, including three different California summer camps from San Diego up to Stanford in Northern California. In addition, SuperCamp runs a unique college summer camp for incoming and current college students, which not only helps them while they're in school, but also prepares them for a career.

Parents are finding that, even in a bad economy, these academic camps are a good investment. As one SuperCamp grad parent says, SuperCamp was "a decision well worth making. We have seen remarkable improvements in our son's confidence, social skills and study skills as well as motivation."
