NFL Playoffs Schedule Saturday Jan. 10: Carolina Panthers Host Arizona Cardinals in NFC Divisional Matchup

The NFL playoffs enter the divisional stage on Saturday and in the NFC the showdown will be between the NFC West champion Arizona Cardinals and the NFC South champion Carolina Panthers,  a rematch of a Week 8 game in which the Panthers won 27-23 at home.

Arizona will have their work cut out for them on Saturday as they travel to Carolina. The Cardinals were just 3-5 away from home while the Panthers were the only team in the NFL to post a perfect 8-0 record at home.

Carolina has been led by a potent offensive attack that features DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart in the backfield and Steve Smith and Muhsin Muhammad at the receiver position. While quarterback Jake Delhomme hasn’t had a sensational year he has done enough to keep the Panthers winning.

While the Cardinals defense has been heavily criticized over the past several weeks they stepped up big last week to shut down the Atlanta Falcons to earn their ticket to Carolina. Arizona proved they could shutdown a running back as Michael Turner struggled to get going and if the Cardinals are to have any chance against the Panthers they’ll have to do the same with Williams and Stewart.

Offensively the Cardinals took a hit with an injury to Anquan Boldin but they still have Larry Fitzgerald at the wide receiver position and Kurt Warner will almost certainly be targeting him on Saturday. Arizona will have to establish a running game to open up a passing attack and if Edgerrin James can mirror last week’s effort then the Cardinals could pull the upset.

Of course the Panthers are perfect at home so it will take a perfect game from the Cardinals and they have lost their last five games against Carolina dating back to 2003.

Kickoff for the Carolina Panthers and Arizona Cardinals game is set for 8:30 p.m. ET.
