Last Second Shot Lets San Antonio Spurs Slip by Memphis Grizzlies to Extend Series
The San Antonio Spurs were 1.7 seconds away from the end of their season. Down 3-1 in their first round series against the eighth seeded Memphis Grizzlies and three points in game five there was very little hope of making it through to play another game. 1.7 seconds proved to be plenty of time for Gary Neal to make a straight away three point shot and force the game into overtime.
Almost as remarkable was the shot by Manu Ginobili to bring the Spurs within one point with 2.2 seconds left. Falling out of bounds in the right corner Ginobili found his spot and fired what appeared to be a three poitner to tie the game. Upon video review his foot was clearly on the line and it was only good for two points.
Zach Randolph hit two free throws to push the Memphis lead to three points and the stage was set for San Antonio to take a last second shot. Normally they would look to one of their playmakers like Tim Duncan, Tony Parker or Ginobili to make this shot but the play was run for Gary Neal and it worked to perfection.
The Spurs went on to win the game in overtime 110-103.
