Eva Langoria and other Latino celebrities are enlisted to discuss immigration with President

By: Daun Lee

The President has asked prominent Hispanic entertainers to talk with him about immigration reform. Some of the entertainers, included in on the talks, are Eva Langoria of ‘Desperate Housewives’, America Ferrera of ‘Ugly Betty’ and Rosario Dawson. The meetings are closed but includes a couple Hispanic journalists such as Jose Diaz-Balart of Telemundo and Maria Elen Salinas of Univision. Also, included is LA radio host Eddie ‘Piolin’ Sotelo, who has increasingly pushed Obama to reform the immigration policy.

The White House organized the meeting with entertainers, and activists to “to discuss how we can work together to foster a constructive national conversation on this important issue.” The Latino vote is increasingly important for the President in 2012. It is unlikely that immigration reform will be enacted before the 2012 election because of the Republican controlled House.

Immigration reform is especially important to our Hispanic population, as they make up the largest group of immigrants in America. There are a large number of Latinos who live in the US illegally and are encouraged to seek naturalization, which is easier with an immigration attorney.

The benefits of citizenship outweigh the potential for deportation, which makes future citizenship difficult without an immigration lawyer. The naturalization can be time consuming and may be a factor in why illegals don’t apply for citizenship. Hiring a knowledgeable immigration lawyer can may the process less complicated for the immigrant. Obama’s goal is to make a pathway for millions of immigrants.
