Derek Lowe, who plays for the Atlanta Braves, was arrested Thursday night for DUI. Troopers pulled over his Porsche on Peachtree Street in Atlanta because he appeared to be racing with another car. The officer noticed the smell of alcohol and conducted a field sobriety test which prompted his arrest.
The thirty seven year old pitcher has been charged with DUI, improper lane change and reckless driving. Lowe refused to take a breathalyzer before he was released. According to NBC sports, Lowe is the fifth major league baseball player to be arrested for a DUI in 2011. Athletes are keeping DUI attorneys very busy.
The driver of the other car was charged only with reckless driving.
The Atlanta Braves released the following statement, “We are very concerned disappointed about the events involving Derek Lowe overnight. We are currently gathering information and plan to address this matter later today.” Representatives for Derek Lowe have not released a statement as of yet.
