NYC couple who built a wall to share house must sell

By: Daun Lee

The divorce of Chana and Simon Taub is like a movie; in fact the media has referred to their long contentious battle as ‘The War of the Roses’, which was a movie about a divorcing couple and their battle over the details of their divorce.

The Taub’s have been in the process of divorce for approximately six years trying to hash out the details of the settlement. While the couple has been in court, they built a wall through the three story brownstone they shared. This week a judge granted a divorce and ordered the couple to sell the home the home they split. Simon will keep three other buildings he owns.

Chana Taub has been given a settlement of $1.5 million and $6,000 a month in alimony but she doesn’t want to sell the house and plans to appeal.

The Taubs had a long and touchy divorce, like many couples with numerous properties and assets. In cases that involve high finances and multiple properties, a divorce attorney is a necessary tool in reaching a settlement that both spouses agree with.

Divorce is difficult; the emotional aspects can compound the practical aspects. A divorce lawyer can be the voice of reason in a contentious case. Knowledge of the law, and an understanding of how the courts generally rule, is essential to the divorcing couple. The right divorce attorney will fight for the right settlement, tailored to their clients’ needs.
