The CBS reporter Lara Logan, who was physical and sexually assaulted in Cairo, will talk to 60 Minutes about her ordeal.
Logan was reporting the uprising in Egypt, when she was pulled away from her colleagues in Tahrir Square. A mob of men physically assaulted her tore her clothes. Logan said “they raped me with their hands.” She will tell her story on this Sunday’s edition of 60 Minutes, and hopes to put her ordeal behind her. Logan also has plans to continue reporting in troubled areas in spite of the sexual assault.
She was rescued from her attackers by some local women and police in the vicinity.
A story in the NY Times was published shortly after her ordeal, which reported that sexual harassment was fairly common in Egypt, especially towards western women. In their story, women who were working in the region recounted how they were repeatedly harassed on the streets while going to work.
Sexual harassment is a global issue, but it still happens with regularity in the American workplace. The diligence of sexual harassment lawyers and their clients have led to more awareness of this issue. Certain statistics show that 40 to 70 percent of women claim they have been sexually harassed at work. Many women don’t report these incidences but the retention of a sexual harassment lawyer can give women the confidence to speak out against their harassers. Harassment on the workplace can only be ended if women disclose the problem and hire a sexual harassment attorney to hold perpetrators responsible for their actions.
