College Prep Camp Ensures that Students are College Ready after High School

When parents send their kids off to school each day, they entrust that the school is going to do the best they can to academically set their child up for success. However, even when the intent for success is there, how can parents be so sure that their students are already set up with the skills they need to be successful in college?

According to the U.S. Department of Education, 68% of high school students fail to graduate “college ready.” That’s why SuperCamp, a 10-day college prep camp for students age 11 -19, is devoted to teaching academic and life skills to kids and teens from all over the world to ensure that they have the tools they need to be successful in the classroom and in life.

One of the most important, yet overlooked aspects to successful learning is creating a positive study environment. Developing strong study skills in a healthy learning environment is an extremely important in helping students take control of improving their grades. SuperCamp offers great tips and tools for helping students create a positive learning environment.

The first step in creating a positive atmosphere is to surround the study area with positive messages of ‘I can!’ and ‘I will!” Positive affirmations have the ability to remind the subconscious mind of our potential to learn. Furthermore, entering into a situation knowing that they will succeed drastically cuts down on stress and anxiety in kids and teens; “What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail?”

SuperCamp encourages parents and kids to create signs – using lots of pictures and colors. Affirmation signs can look like, “I Believe In Myself!” “Everything I Do Deserves My Best Effort!” “I Am Unique and Valuable!” “I Can Learn This!” “Come On! Give Me That Test!” and “Learning Is Fun and Natural!”

Stocking the study environment with reference books, writing materials, text books, notes, proper lighting, fresh air, and even greenery ensures maximum learning potential. Parents can make this a project with their children – get their ideas on what will work for them and help them create it!

Music also plays an important role in creating a positive study environment. Some classical music is “brain friendly” and enhances the study space. Baroque music helps students to focus and to access their most resourceful learning state, Alpha State. Music optimizes the functions of the brain that store and retrieve information. Many, if not most kids will think that their own music is best, yet, what SuperCamp has proven for over 30 years is that Baroque music, which includes the composers Bach, Handel, Vivaldi, and Pachelbel, is much more effective. They may even notice that it makes study time easier and faster!

Hosted on nine college campus across the country, including Stanford, Brown, Wake Forest, and UCLA, SuperCamp has taught over 57,000 students how to tap into their personal success personally and academically.
