Prince Harry has issued an apology for calling a
Pakistani army colleague a “Paki” in a video recently published by The News of the World.
The video was recorded in 2006, a year after the prince sparked international outrage
by wearing a Nazi uniform to a costume party.
In the footage, Prince Harry is behind the camera and can
be heard making the remark. “Anyone else here? Ah, out little Paki friend,
Ahmed,” he says as he zooms in on the soldier.
He was later shown telling another officer wearing a camouflage
veil that he looked “like a raghead,” a slang term for an Arab.
A spokesman for the 24-year-old, who is third in line to
the British throne, says the prince knows how offensive the name is but insists
that it was not used with malice.
"However, on this occasion three years ago, Prince
Harry used the term without any malice and as a nickname about a highly popular
member of his platoon," the spokesman said.
