Donovan McNabb was 22/40 passing for 217 yards and a touchdown while adding a one-yard TD run, DeSean Jackson had four receptions for 81 yards and the Philadelphia Eagles defense forced three turnovers and stopped the New York Giants on two huge fourth down plays in a 23-11 victory on Sunday to advance to the NFC Championship where they will travel to face the Arizona Cardinals.
John Carney put the Giants in front 3-0 in the opening frame with a 22-yard field goal but the Eagles answered when McNabb snuck into the endzone on a one-yard keeper and Philly carried a 7-3 advantage into the second frame.
New York’s defense put the next two points on the board when McNabb was flagged for intentional grounding while in the endzone resulting in a safety. The Giants then took the lead 8-7 when Carney hit a 34-yard field goal with 1:34 left in the half but David Akers kicked a 25-yard field goal with 4 seconds left and the Eagles carried a 10-8 lead into the break.
Just like he did in the opening frame Carney capped the Giants opening drive of the second half with a field goal and New York was back in front 11-10. Philadelphia countered with an Akers 35-yard field goal to move in front 13-11 and McNabb gave them some breathing room early in the fourth when he found Brent Celek on a one-yard toss to put the score at 20-11.
Akers gave the Eagles more breathing room when he split the uprights from 20-yards out with four minutes left in the game and Philly’s defense took care of the rest.
That Eagles defense limited the Giants offense to just 3-13 on third down conversions and Eli Manning was 15-29 passing.
