Understanding the psychology behind the addiction is critical in alcohol and drug rehab

The traditional Alcohol and Drug Rehab centers today treat the individual’s addiction by relying solely on the more conventional therapies and techniques which only treat the physical aspects of the individual’s addiction.  Unfortunately, the majority of these individuals who leave these traditional rehab centers wind up relapsing once they have completed treatment and recovery.  Our facility has realized for a number of years now that if alcohol and drug addiction is going to be treated successfully, understanding the psychology behind the addiction is critical.

Typically, alcohol and drug addiction results when the individual becomes depressed with their current situation and lives.  Another key statistic is that it is twice as likely to occur among women as it does with men.  Our staff  at  our Alcohol and Drug Rehab has learned to recognize the “red flags” or warning signs associated with the existence of depression.  Additionally, these warning signs are both physical and emotional as well.

Physical warning signs include:

  • Appetite loss which leads to a noticeable weight loss
  • Energy and stamina levels which are below average to non-existent
  • Frequent bouts with migraines or severe headaches
  • Physical aches and pain that cannot be explained
  • Poor resting habits resulting in continual fatigue
  • Poor sleeping behavior that includes insomnia and restlessness

Emotional warning signs include:

  • Continuous worrying coupled with feelings of guilt
  • Discussions and thoughts that indicate the individual has suicidal tendencies
  • Feeling as though you are unimportant and/or worthless
  • Hysterical outbursts (crying fits)which occur without reason
  • Inability to make critical decisions or focus on important aspects in life
  • Lack of  desire and motivation
