How a Visit to a Physical Therapist Can Break Poor Nutrition Habits

Many individuals are surprised to find that physical therapy isn’t just about treating injuries anymore. The modern physical therapist is well versed in health and wellness and many people are turning to physical therapists to kick their poor nutrition habits.

In a society where there are fast food temptations on every street corner and a plethora of processed foods readily available it is a no wonder that obesity and poor nutrition habits are soaring at an alarming rate.  As a result, a high percentage of people feel that their health is spinning out of control and most need help and guidance getting their health back on track. This is where a visit to a physical therapist can be extremely beneficial to intervention.

Physical therapists take inventory of an individual’s current health position and then they design a personalized health and wellness program based on their findings.  The programs help patients stabilize current health issues and prevent health problems from transpiring down the road.  They also continually guide patients through the plan and make revisions where necessary during the course of the plan.  You can’t find a better health and wellness program than that!

Poor nutrition is a major contributor to cardiovascular problems and obesity which instigates further health problems.  A personalized program targets specific issues and helps patients to regain their health.  Although the program is very detailed there are some general rules of thumb that physical therapists apply to any personalized health and wellness program.

Physical therapists recommend that you trade in the fast foods and processed foods for fresh produce which is cheaper than fast foods by a long shot and does not contain all of the artificial ingredients and other questionable ingredients that contribute to poor health.

Increased fiber intake is also part of the nutrition regimen and prevents chronic illnesses.  This means eating more natural whole grains such as oats and wheat as well as beans that are high in fiber.

Due to a fast paced lifestyle many people also skip meals which lead to starvation and grabbing the first fast food in sight.  Physical therapists stress that skipping meals will also contribute to fat storage since the body enters a starvation mode.

Abandon the carbonated beverages and drink more water and make exercise a part of the regular routine.  These general tips coupled with a plan from a physical therapist will ensure that you remain in optimum health.  What could be better than a personalized plan that ensures the right balance of nutrients along with the help and support that is needed to kick bad nutrition habits?  What an incredible advantage!
