An overloaded boat sank in the Democratic Republic of Congo Sunday night, leaving about 100 people missing.
Officials have confirmed the boat sank in the Kasai River in Kasai Occidental province. Overloading was the reason for the accident. Survivors said at least 300 people were on board. No other details, including the initial death toll, were released.
Last week, at least 38 people died when a boat overturned and sank in Lake Kivu. The boat was traveling from Minova to Bukavu when it capsized. United Nations officials said strong winds appeared to be a factor in the incident.
