Bin Laden’s death breaks Twitter records

The death of US enemy number one, Osama bin Laden lit up the internet and dominated most of the day’s news stories. There will celebrations throughout the US, to herald the death of the man who engineered the 9/11 attacks that remain emblazoned in the American psyche.

After 10 years special military forces found and brought down the leader of Al Qaeda. The social networking site Twitter which has become the way many celebrities and political leaders communicate with their audience was overloaded with tweets about the death of Bin Laden.

Between the hours of 10pm and 2am, Twitter reported an average 3,224 tweets were posted every second.  Before Obama’s late evening address, there were over 5,000 tweets per second about the death of Bin Laden, and many people reported that they first heard the news through Twitter.

The micro-blogging site has become an important tool for new agencies and internet advertisers. Using Twitter is also becoming important to SEO optimization to maximize the presence of companies they represent on the internet.

Twitter has been used by celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Charlie Sheen to generate advertising income. Twitter offers information to and about users in real time. Using social network sites like Twitter and Facebook can have positive impacts for businesses that use SEO optimization by reaching more people than searches alone. The social media revolution has been benefited many a business and the SEO optimization firms they employ.
