Greek Shipping Magnate, Pericles Panagopoulos, Abducted by Gunmen Near Athens

Pericles Panagopoulos, founder of Greece’s largest ferry company, Attica, was abducted by at least three gunmen who targeted the 70-year-old as he was leaving his home in the Athens suburb of Kavouri.

The gunmen blocked in Panagopoulos and his driver and hurried them into a van before taking off. That van was later found abandoned with the driver handcuffed inside.

A witness said they saw the men move Panagopoulos into another vehicle before fleeing once again.

Abductions in Greece have become a growing problem in Greece as gunmen target wealthy individuals and attempt to secure large ransoms for their release.
