Israeli Forces Continue Push into Gaza, Target Hamas Locations

Now in its third week, the Israeli military operation in Gaza has seen a continued push by forces to enter more heavily populated areas as they target more Hamas locations.

According to Israeli spokesman Mark Regev the operation was “advancing towards an end game” but he did not provide a timeline for that end.

Israel has said they have advanced into densely populated areas because that’s where the Hamas militants have retreated.

Reports have indicated that more than 900 Palestinians have been killed since the Israeli military operations began on Dec. 27. For the first week Israel launched numerous airstrikes on Gaza, taking out strategic locations linked to Hamas. Entering the second week Israel moved into a second phase where they began ground operations to further target Hamas locations.

Both sides have said the fighting would continue and have ignored an international call for a ceasefire. Israeli officials have said they would continue until Hamas halted their rocket attacks into southern Israel while Hamas has demanded Israel lift its blockade of Gaza.
