Tony
Dungy is expected to announce his retirement as head coach of the Indianapolis
Colts on Monday, ending a seven year run that included a Super Bowl victory and
an NFL-record six straight seasons with 12 or more victories.
Dungy
has expressed a desire to step away from the NFL in order to focus on other
areas of interests which include his family and ministry-based activities.
The
Indianapolis Colt shave announced there would be a news conference scheduled for
5:00 p.m. ET on Monday. Dungy was said to be at the Colts complex on Monday
where he was saying his goodbyes to players and coaches.
Prior
to his stint in Indianapolis Dungy was head coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
for six seasons. It was in Tampa that Dungy began his streak of ten consecutive
years in the playoffs, another NFL record.
