Canadian man canoeing accross Canada to raise awareness about protecting waterways

Thunder Bay, ON, Canada -- March 28th, 2006 -- Water for Future Generations is a cross Canada canoeing expedition to raise awareness about Canadian water-related environmental issues and inspire leadership among politicians and ordinary citizens. It is calling for our federal government to develop a Canadian water act, and for ordinary citizens to give water further consideration and take action.

The organizer and paddler of the expedition, Seth Wotten, will be canoeing from the southeastern to the far northwestern end of Canada over the course of 2006 and 2007 (Montreal, QC to Tuktoyaktuk, NWT). He is scheduled to embark on his journey at the Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue Canal National Historic Site of Canada (just west of Montreal) on Saturday, April 15th, 2006, provided that the ice is open at that time. Seth intends to convey his message to individuals personally and by promoting his website, www.waterforfuturegenerations.com, which provides numerous suggestions about how people can take action for our water.

"Paddling across Canada has been my dream for many years, and I wanted to do it for a good cause," says Seth. Like any citizen of the world, Seth lives his life dependent upon water itself and the resources it sustains. He has come to realize that water knows no boundaries and is ecologically connected with everything on Earth. He has developed a special, close relationship with water during what now amounts to years of his life that he has spent paddling in it. While others have organized paddling trips to raise awareness about issues of concern of all kinds, Seth hopes to use water as a vehicle to raise awareness about water itself.

Seth will be available for interviews with members of the media until his departure from his home in Thunder Bay, Ontario on April 8th, 2006. After that time, he can be contacted by voicemail or by email. If you would like to reach him, leave a message with a contact number and a general time when it would be convenient for him to call back. He will also be holding an outdoor press conference between 9am and 11am at the canal on the morning of his departure.

Seth would like to thanks his sponsors: Souris River Canoes, Ostrom Outdoors, Chaltrek, Northwater, and the Cranton Wellness Centre.
