Obama Adviser Says Release of Bin Laden Death Photo is Being Considered
John Brennan, the White House’s top counterterrorism adviser, says President Obama is considering releasing death photos and other
material relating to the killing of Osama Bin Laden. The other materials reportedly
being considered for release includes photos and videos of Bin Laden being
buried at sea.
"We are looking at releasing additional information,
details about the raid as well as any other types of material, possibly
including photos. We want to understand exactly what the possible reaction
might be to the release of this information,” Brennan told ABC News.
Brennan also spoke to National Public Radio about the situation.
"There is not a question at this point I think in anybody's mind that bin Laden
is dead, and so I know there are some people who are interested in having that
visual proof. This is something we are taking into account,” he said. "But
what we don't want to do is to release anything that might be either
misunderstood or that would cause other problems."
Bin Laden was killed Sunday by American forces at a
mansion in Abbottabad, Pakistan. His body was put in a weighted body bag and
dropped into the ocean.
