Clashes in Somalia’s Capital City Mogadishu Leave at least 10 Dead

Less than two weeks after Ethiopian troops began pulling out of Somalia the capital city of Mogadishu saw violent clashes between Islamic militants and government troops that left at least ten dead and several more injured.

According to reports the insurgents began firing rockets at the presidential palace while Prime Minister Nur Hassan Hussein was hosting a meeting with African Union peace keepers.

The insurgent attacks in Mogadishu were countered by government troops firing mortars which hit a busy market and residential area. At least eight civilians were killed in the market blasts.

Fears have been expressed that as Ethiopia removes its troops a power vacuum will be created and the city of Mogadishu will see increased violence.
