Paul Pierce scored 39 points and grabbed 9 rebounds, Kevin Garnett finished with 20 points and 12 boards and Rajon Rondo had 9 points and 8 assists to lead the Boston Celtics (31-9) to a 115-109 overtime victory over the Toronto Raptors (16-23) on Monday night.
The Raptors held a 23-19 lead after the opening frame and extended their advantage to 54-45 at the half before the Celtics began to chip away at their deficit. Pierce scored 14 in the third quarter and Brian Scalabrine added 8 to pull Boston to within 78-74 heading into the fourth.
Gabe Pruitt gave Boston their first lead since the first quarter with a three-pointer early in the fourth but the Raptors managed to grab a two-point lead before going more than six minutes without a bucket and Boston built a 90-84 lead with less than two minutes left. Pierce had a chance to make it a four point game with 14 seconds left but he went 1-2 from the line and with one second left in regulation Andrea Bargnani hit a three-pointer to send the game into overtime.
In the extra frame Pierce scored 9 points and eth Celtics went 8-8 from the foul-line in the final 43 seconds to pick up their second straight win and improve to 19-2 at home.
