Legendary actor Steve McQueen to be remembered in upcoming film

By: Daun Lee

Hollywood legend Steve McQueen died, but his legend hasn’t been forgotten. A new film about his life is in the works and will star Jeremy Renner, who won an Oscar for Hurt Locker. The upcoming biographical film will be based on the novels, Portrait of an American Rebel and The Life and Legend of a Hollywood Icon both by Marshall Terrill, which focused on the life of Steve McQueen.

The iconographic actor died in 1980, but lives on through his classic films, most notably Bullitt and The Great Escape. The untitled film will be produced by The Combine, a production company set up by Renner specifically for the McQueen movie.

Shortly after McQueen finished his last film The Hunter, he was diagnosed with mesothelioma, a cancer caused by asbestos. McQueen smoke heavily and often wore asbestos lined motorcycling suits. At the time of his diagnosis his tumors were so large and prevalent that the actor died soon after. It is unclear if the film will include McQueen’s struggle with mesothelioma.

These days, mesothelioma patients can live longer than when Steve McQueen was diagnosed. Innovations in cancer treatments allow patients with the asbestos-related cancer more treatment options but these drugs and procedures are expensive. The representation of a mesothelioma lawyer can help the patient recoup their medical expenses.

The majority of mesothelioma patients contact the disease after occupational contact with asbestos. A mesothelioma attorney can gain much needed reparation for the mesothelioma victim.
