Judge gives former Desperate Housewives star approval to go forward with lawsuit

By: Daun Lee

Nicolette Sheridan played Edie Britt on the very popular show Desperate Housewives, until her character was eliminated. Sheridan filed a lawsuit against ABC and Marc Cherry, the show’s producer, for wrongful termination alleging she was fired for complaining about an argument with Cherry, which included sexual harassment.

The presiding judge wouldn’t allow the sexual harassment allegation in this particular suit, but will allow the termination case to go to trial.

According to Sheridan she was terminated after she and Cherry had an argument in 2008. The argument entailed different forms of harassment one of which was sexual in nature. Even though the sexual harassment allegations aren’t allowed in the trial, there is evidence that Cherry’s recalling of events does not match up with the timeline of a previous Housewives producer, Lori Kirkland Baker.

Sexual harassment is a common issue in the workplace and sexual harassment lawyers fight to eradicate the problem. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission states that 31 percent of women claim they have been sexually harassed on the job, and those are only, the statistics of the people who report the harassment.

Many women and men don’t report sexual harassment for fear of retaliation by their employers, but a sexual harassment attorney can shield a person from this. Sexual harassment makes the workplace a hostile environment. An accomplished sexual harassment lawyer will apply their experience to eliminate harassment from a person’s working environment.
