Israel Advances into Suburbs of Gaza City, Airstrikes Continue to Shell Hamas Targets

Israeli ground troops have pushed into the suburbs of Gaza City following another night of airstrikes that hit more than 60 Hamas locations across the war-torn territory.

Now in its third week, the Israeli strikes inside Gaza have reportedly left more than 900 Palestinians dead, many of them civilians. Many Palestinians have now fled their homes and taken refuge in UN camps as bombings have left residents vulnerable to the attacks.

The International Committee of the Red Cross has maintained that Gaza faces a “humanitarian crisis” as residents have been hit with food and water shortages and medical facilities are forced to deal with large numbers of patients and dwindling supplies.

Israel has been respecting a three-hour ceasefire each day to allow humanitarian relief to residents of Gaza and UN workers have used that time to distribute food and give medical attention.

Both Israel and Hamas have refused to heed calls for an immediate and lasting ceasefire.
