Barack Obama Expected to Close Guantanamo Camp Shortly after Taking Office

President-elect Barack Obama is expected to make good on his campaign promise and shut down the U.S. detention center in Guantanamo Bay within days of taking office next week.

Senior advisers for Obama have confirmed that the new President would issue an executive order that would close the camp that now houses about 250 inmates, many of whom are suspected terrorists.

Obama has stated “We're going to get it done, but part of the challenge that you have is that you have got a bunch of folks that have been detained, many of whom may be very dangerous, who have not been put on trial or have not gone through some adjudication.”

While Obama plans on shutting down the Guantanamo camp there has been no plans announced regarding where those inmates would be transferred.
