Academy Award winning songwriter Joseph Brooks is a
suspect in five sexual assaults in Manhattan. Police sources say Brooks used
his Hollywood status on Craigslist to lure his victims to his apartment, where
he would rape them.
The movie director would promise the aspiring models and
actress’s a part in his next movie and would offer to show them his Upper East
Side apartment. Two of the five victims claim Brooks spiked their drinks with
date-rape drugs.
The assaults first began in 2006 and spanned over two
years until March 2008.
Brooks, 70, is suspected in two rapes, a sodomy case and
two sexual assault cases. He has declined to comment on the allegations except
to say he suffered a debilitating stroke about six months ago.
Brooks, directed and bankrolled the 1977 romance ‘You Light
Up My Life.’ He wrote the title track and won an Academy Award for the song. He
began his career by writing jingles including ones for Pepsi and Geritol.
