Doctors
in Oxford, England were able to deliver a baby girl by Caesarean section last week,
two days after her mother was declared brain dead.
Jayne
Soliman was just 25 weeks pregnant when she collapsed after suffering a brain
hemorrhage at her home in Bracknell, Berkshire, England. She was airlifted to a
hospital in Oxford but was declared dead shortly after arriving. Doctors
managed to keep her heart beating long enough to allow the baby’s lungs to develop
and two days after declaring Soliman brain dead Aya Jayne Soliman was
delivered.
Weighing
2 pounds, 1.5 ounces Aya was taken immediately to intensive care where she
remains.
