Miami Heat Takes 2-0 Lead Against Boston Celtics
Miami Heat Win Game 2 of Eastern Conference Semi-Finals
On Tuesday, the Miami Heat took a 2-0 lead in the Eastern Conference semi-finals series by beating the Boston Celtics 102-91.
"Feel good about it," said LeBron James, who led both teams in scoring with 35 points. "Series is far -- far, far, far -- away from over. It's really just beginning for us."
Dwyane Wade contributed 28 points, and Chris Bosh recorded 17 points and 11 rebounds.
On the Boston side, Rajon Rondo led the team in scoring with 20 points and 14 assists. Kevin Garnett scored 16 points, while Paul Pierce contributed 13 of his own. Ray Allen was held to only 7 points.
But despite trailing 2-0 and suffering from some unfortunate injuries, Allen says the Celtics are not worried.
"Being down 2-0 doesn't scare any of us, doesn't make us nervous," said Allen. "It's just an opportunity to come out shining."
Boston tied the game at 80 in the middle of the fourth quarter. But then the Miami defense stepped it up a notch, causing the Celtics to miss their next six shots. And then Miami ran away with the game.
"That's our staple. We know the only way for us to win games, especially in the playoffs, is to play defense," said James. "Everyone has each other's back. If one guy gets beat, another steps up. They made a run, a heck of a run ... but we just kept grinding, kept playing our principles, and we finally wore them down."
This group of Celtics has never come back from a 0-2 deficit to win. But Celtics head coach Doc Rivers isn't concerned with that statistic.
"Nothing we can do about it," said Rivers. "We've got a third game and we've got to take care of that. Whatever the past is, it is. They've won two games at home. But we can't allow them to play like this, or it's going to be tough at our place."
Meanwhile, neither James nor Wade has ever been part of a playoff series defeat after his respective team won the first two games.
"This is a great team we are going against right now," said James. "We're just trying to give ourselves a good chance to win, just try to keep on attacking them, playing as hard as we can defensively, just trying to wear them down throughout the game, but it's a great team."
