2011 Kentucky Derby Post Positions Announced

The 137th running of the Kentucky Derby will take place this Saturday in Churchill Downs. The race has long been a spectacle to behold for Americans as it kicks off the first race of the Triple Crown (along with the Belmont and Preakness) and entertains millions with both the racing and the pageantry.

People who are not fans of horse racing watch the Kentucky Derby to see what celebrities will show up and how they will be dressed. The fashion trends are generally led by the outrageous hats and dresses of the women in attendance.

The post draw for this year's race was announced on Wednesday. The horses in the running are listed along with their post gate.

The draw is always done randomly and sometimes goes against the favorites in the race. Dialed In, the early favorite, got an excellent draw in the No. 8 position. Uncle Mo on the other hand, the second favorite in the odds, drew the No. 18 position, which puts him far from the rail and with formidable opponents on either side in Soldat and Nehro.

As always the favorites are not always the races big winners. In the 2009 race the winner went of with higher than 50/1 odds and provided a big pay day for people who had money on the line.

Post time for the Derby is 6:24 p.m. (ET) with less highly prized races taking place beforehand. Coverage of the race starts on NBC at 4:00 p.m. (ET) on NBC.
