A woman gave have birth to a healthy baby girl two days
after she died from a brain hemorrhage. Former British ice-skating champ Jayne
Campbell Soliman was 25 weeks pregnant when she complained of a headache and
collapsed in her bedroom.
She was rushed to a hospital but pronounced clinically
dead. Soliman died of an aggressive tumor that struck a major blood vessel. Doctors
kept her breathing on life support for two days in an attempt to save her unborn
child. Soliman was given large doses to steroids to help the baby’s lungs develop.
Two days later, Soliman gave birth to her daughter by
c-section. The baby girl weighed two-pounds and one-and-a-half ounces. Soliman’s
husband Mahmoud Soliman and their newborn daughter said goodbye before the life
support was cut off.
The baby was named Aya Jayne. ‘Aya’ is a Muslim word
meaning miracle.
Soliman’s father, Bill Campbell, says she would have been
“so proud” of her daughter.“Her mother would have been so proud. I've seen
pictures of her on the internet and she's a lovely little thing. A real
miracle,” he said.
