California Man Arrested after Attempting to Sell Teen Daughter into Marriage for Beer and Meat

A California man has been arrested after he allegedly tried to sell his 14-year-old daughter into a marriage with his neighbor for beer, meat and $16,000.

According to reports police learned of the incident when the father of the teen, Marcelino de Jesus Martinez, told authorities the neighbor had not paid the full price. He now faces charges of child cruelty, statutory rape and human trafficking.

Police also arrested the neighbor, Margarito de Jesus Galindo, 18, and charged him with statutory rape.

Martinez is said to be a member of the indigenous Mexican Trique community and arranged marriages are a traditional practice among members.
