Israel
has pushed deeper into Gaza City, using tanks and ground troops to continue their
military operations against Hamas militants in the troubled region.
The
Israeli military has continued to use air strikes to hit Hamas targets
including tunnels and buildings used by the Palestinian militants. While the air
strikes have destroyed several targets it is being reported that tank fire was
to blame for damage to the UN relief agency UNRWA in Gaza City.
According
to the UN at least three employees were injured in the attack and the damage to
the building will prevent relief workers from providing humanitarian aid to
Palestinians because their trucks were unable to leave the compound.
Israeli
defense minister Ehud Barack has said he regrets that UN workers had been hurt
in the attack.
Both
sides have called an international demand for a ceasefire impossible at the
moment, each demanding conditions that the other appears unwilling to meet.
Hamas wants an immediate withdrawal of Israeli troops and an end to a blockade
that has isolated Gaza while Israel has demanded an end to rocket attacks
launched into southern Israel.
Now
in its 20th day, the conflict has left more than 1,000 Palestinians
dead while 13 Israeli casualties have been reported.
