Top Hamas Leader Killed in Israeli Airstrike in Gaza

An Israeli air strike in the Gaza Strip has killed Said Siyam, the Hamas interior minister responsible for about 13,000 security troops in the troubled region.

According to reports the strike on his brother’s home in Gaza City also killed his son, brother and two other Hamas officials.

Siyam had created the Hamas Executive Force, a paramilitary that played a key role in Hamas establishing control of Gaza in 2007. He had become a top official in Hamas following the assassination of Sheikh Yassin and Abdel-Aziz Rantissi in 2004.
