All 14 Missing Miners Found Dead in Mexico
Authorities in northern Mexico have confirmed all 14
miners missing in a mine explosion have been found dead. The explosion occurred
last Tuesday at a coal mine outside Sabinas, Mexico. A teenage miner survived
the blast, but suffered severe injuries that required the amputation of both
arms.
“Objective accomplished,” Lozano Tweeted Sunday after the
last of the bodies had been recovered.
Lozano has called for an increase in safety regulations and
inspections at mines across the country. "We want coal free of blood,
clean coal," he told reporters.
The cause of the explosion was investigated and
authorities determined a buildup of gas was responsible. The mine is owned by
BINSA and had been operating for less than a month.
