Delta, Continental Flights Diverted Over Security Concerns

Authorities have confirmed two U.S. passenger flights were diverted Sunday over separate incidents. Both planes landed safely and continued to their final destinations after being cleared by federal authorities.

The first incident happened on Continental flight 546 bound for Chicago from Houston. The plane made an emergency landing in St. Louis after a male passenger attempted to open an exit door mid flight. St. Louis airport spokesman Jeff Lea said the “unruly passenger” was subdued by passengers and a flight attendant. Authorities took custody of the unidentified man and inspected the plane for explosives. Flight 546 continued on to Chicago.

In the second incident, a flight attendant found a suspicious note in a lavatory on Delta flight 1706. The flight, which was headed to San Diego from Detroit, was diverted to Albuquerque, New Mexico. All passengers deplaned and were questioned while authorities searched for suspicious devices on the aircraft. Flight 1706 was cleared and continued to San Diego.
