Lohan Still Haunted By Addiction Issues

Lindsay Lohan was recently ordered back to jail when a judge ruled that her arrest for necklace theft was a violation of her probation for a 2007 drunk driving charge.

If you ever need any proof of how substance abuse can continue to haunt you even if you’re no longer using, you only need to look as far as Lindsay Lohan. Currently in court for allegedly stealing a necklace from a SoCal boutique, her past addiction issues are playing a part in the proceedings, even thought the charges have nothing to do with drugs or alcohol.

While Lohan managed to get her felony grand theft charge reduced to a misdemeanor, the troubled actress was surprised when the judge sentenced her to 120 days in jail for violating her drunk driving probation from a 2007 arrest. It means Lohan spent five hours in custody before posting a $75,000 bond, all because of an arrest that happened four years ago.

Her release from Los Angeles County's Lynwood Correctional Facility capped a long day that included a victory for the actress when a judge reduced the felony grand theft charge to a misdemeanor.

Lohan will remain free on bond while her lawyer appeals the jail sentence for the probation violation, but she must immediately start serving 480 hours of community service, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Stephanie Sautner said.

And it won’t be a cushy gig either. The community service includes 360 hours at a downtown Los Angeles women's center and another 120 hours of community service at the Los Angeles County morgue.

Meanwhile, the necklace theft case will go forward, with a trial date set for June 3, and Lohan ordered to return to court for a hearing May 11, 2011. If convicted, a misdemeanor could still result in up to a year in prison for Lohan.

Lohan’s Addiction History

Lohan has been in court nine times in the past year, mostly for hearings related to probation violations related to that 2007 drunk driving case. She did a short stint in jail last year, and two stints in rehab for substance abuse, although both were under court order. It’s unclear whether Lohan has put her addiction issues behind her and is living a life or recovery, but what is clear is how her past issues continue to color her life today.
