Somali Politician Executed by Islamist Militia, Accused of Changing Religion

A Somali politician accused of changing his religion by working with non-Muslim Ethiopian troops has been executed by Islamist militants near the coastal port of Kismayo.

Abdiraham Ahmed was arrested about a week ago and during is interrogation he was said to have admitted to cooperating with Ethiopian forces in their attempt to neutralize Islamist militias and stabilize the interim government in Mogadishu.

According to court opinion Ahmed’s cooperation with the Ethiopian forces was evidence that he had changed his religion, a crime punishable by death.

On Thursday afternoon Ahmed was executed by firing squad.
