Venezuela
will hold a referendum next month to vote on a proposal made by President Hugo
Chavez that would eliminate the current term limits that would prevent him from
seeking re-election.
While
the people of Venezuela voted down the proposal last year on Thursday members of
parliament who support Chavez backed a constitutional amendment that would eliminate
the term limit restrictions.
A
vote on the referendum is now scheduled for Feb. 15.
Chavez
was elected president in 1998 and recently stated he would need another ten
years to fully realize his socialist revolution.
