NCAA Basketball Scores: #8 Syracuse Orange Hold Off #13 Notre Dame Fighting Irish in Big East Showdown

Paul Harris and Rick Jackson each recorded double-doubles with Harris totaling 15 points and 10 rebounds while Jackson finished with 14 points and 10 boards and Arinze Onuako added 19 points and 8 rebounds to lift the #8 Syracuse Orange (17-2, 5-1) past the #13 Notre Dame Fighting Irish (12-5, 3-3) 93-74 in a Big East showdown.

Syracuse too control of the game with a 16-2 run early in the first half to grab a 26-14 advantage but Notre Dame didn’t let the game get away and Luke Harangody pulled them to within seven when he hit a jumper just before the teams went to the locker room.

The Orange pushed their advantage to 61-45 in the second half but a pair of three-pointers from Kyle McAlarney and a layup from Ryan Ayers cut the Irish deficit to 61-53. Syracuse worked their lead back to ten but a Jonathan Peoples layup and another triple from McAlarney brought Notre Dame to within 74-69 with 6:12 left in the game.

Syracuse responded to the Irish run with an 11-3 spurt that ended any hope of a Notre Dame comeback.

Harangody finished with 25 points and 16 rebounds but was just 9-28 from the field as Notre Dame shot 35 percent on the day. Syracuse hit 55 percent from the floor.
