Massachusetts man tries to emergency door during flight

A man on a Delta flight from Orlando to Boston attempted to open the emergency door while the plane was in flight. Robert J Hershey, 43, was reported to be angry and unruly by fellow passengers.

Officials said that Hershey was messing with the emergency exit door when the cover fell of and triggered an alarm alerting flight crews. The man was belligerent and had to be subdued by flight crew and fellow passenger, who happened to be an off duty police officer. The flight continued to Boston where Hershey was arrested, and is expected to be charged with being a disorderly passenger.

This is the third unrelated event of passengers engaging in unruly conduct during a flight. On a Sunday night flight to San Francisco, a passenger attempted to access the cockpit. Another incident of a passenger trying to open an emergency door occurred on a St. Louis flight where they were forced to make an emergency landing.

Though no one was injured on any of the flights it causes some alarm. People could have been accidentally injured, and if the passengers were successful in their attempts the consequences could have been fatal. These negligent passengers would be responsible for any harm caused to another passenger.
