Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe has demanded that Morgan Tsvangirai and his opposition party Movement for Democratic Change accept the current power-sharing agreement or break from it, declaring he would offer no more concessions.
Mugabe and Tsvangirai are scheduled to meet on Monday in what is seen as a last-ditch effort to piece together the stalled agreement that was intended to end debate over the results of last year’s presidential election.
The two are scheduled to meet with regional leaders on Monday but Mugabe has insisted his ZANU-PF party would not bend any more. While the power-sharing deal was to form a more inclusive government Mugabe went ahead and appointed ministers to key cabinet positions. As a result of the appointments Tsvangirai pulled out of the power-sharing agreement.
In a statement to the Sunday Mail Mugabe addressed Monday’s meeting saying, “This is the occasion when it's either they [the MDC] accept or it's a break. After all this is an interim agreement.”
