Australian Open 2009 First Round Results: Jelena Jankovic Takes Care of Yvonne Meusburger to Move On

Jelena Jankovic needed just over an hour to take care of Yvonne Meusburger in the opening round of the Australian Open, beating the Austrian in straight sets 6-1, 6-3 to move on.

Jankovic landed 73 percent of her first serves and was clearly comfortable in pounding out a ground attack with 27 winners while limiting Meusburger to just three. The Serb also broke her opponent six times while facing break just three times herself.

Despite being the world’s number one ranked women’s tennis player Jankovic has yet to win a Grand Slam singles title. She reached the semi-finals at last year’s Australian Open before falling to Maria Sharapova.
