Rafael
Nadal started his Australian Open in impressive fashion, needing just under 1
hour and 20 minutes to knock off Christophe Rochus in straight sets 6-0, 6-2,
6-2 to advance to the second round in Melbourne.
Nadal
once again had great command of his serve, pounding out ten aces while winning
91 percent of his first serves and 75 percent of his second. He broke his
opponent’s serve on 7 of 11 opportunities while facing no breaks of his own.
Nadal
has won five Grand Slam singles titles including four at the French Open and
his first Wimbledon title last year. Three of his French Open titles and his
Wimbledon crown came at the expense of Roger Federer. Nadal’s best finish at the
Australian Open was a semi-final appearance last year.
