The creators of the U.S. Putting Tour are issuing an open invitation to Tiger Woods to participate in their 2011 National Championship, which takes place September 26 through October 2 in Carlsbad, California.
In making the announcement, U.S. Putting Tour founder Jim Hartley said that it makes perfect sense for Tiger to consider entering. "It's in Southern California, so his old friends and mother could come and watch, plus Tiger only has to putt, so it won't cause any damage to his knee or achilles," said Hartley.
Mr. Hartley went on to say that all golfers entered in the
putting championship, including Tiger, play a 72-hole round of putting on the 12-hole putting course at the host club, The Crossings at Carlsbad. The round will take about two hours to complete and golfers can schedule the day during the tournament's Championship Week, on which they want to play.
Seventy-two golfers will advance from the first round to Championship Sunday on October 2, where they will play a 36-hole round in the morning. The top 24 golfers will continue on to play another 36 holes in the afternoon. The low 72-hole score from Sunday will determine the winner.
The
putting tournament is open to club professionals, tour professionals from all tours, other golfers who compete for prize money, and amateurs who don't want to compete for cash prizes. Both men and women will battle for the title of America's Best Putter and the USPT Championship trophy.
Golfers can enter at the U.S. Putting Tour website, where they also can get
