Rick Springfield threatened police after arrest earlier this month

By: Daun Lee

Rick Springfield was arrested on May 1st for a DUI in Malibu which was widely publicized. TMZ reported that the 80’s pop idol verbally threatened the arresting officer when they informed they would have to tow his Corvette Stingray, valued at $200,000.

Rick told the officer “If you tow my car, I will (bleeping) kill you and your family.” The police officer did not charge the singer with the threat, but listed him as belligerent on the arrest report. According to a representative of the Los Angeles police department, drunks often say stupid and offensive things during their arrests, which officers often shrug off.

Springfield released a statement through his representative saying “It’s a sad reflection on society today that law enforcement who we look up to, pander to celebrity gossip channels.”

At the time of his arrest, 61 year old Springfield blew a .10 in a breathalyzer test. In the majority of the states .08 is the legal drinking limit. Anything over .08 is illegal, and will make a DUI attorney a crucial necessity before their court appearance.

Drinking and driving can cause accidents that lead to serious injuries or death, because of this DUI charges are punished severely. To minimize the impact a DUI charge has on a person’s life a DUI lawyer should be retained. With a DUI attorney it may be possible to reduce the charges or penalties associated with a DUI.
