Roger
Federer bounced back from a shaky opening round victory with a convincing
second round victory over Evgeny Korolev at the Australian Open. Federer took
care of the Russian in straight sets 6-2, 6-3, 6-1.
Federer
collected eight aces and limited his unforced errors to just 15 while hitting
25 winners. The Swiss star was able to take advantage of Korolev’s sloppy service
game in which he placed just 51 percent of his first serves in play. Along with
his difficulty serving, Korolev committed 44 unforced errors to seal his fate.
With
his title at the U.S. Open in 2008 Federer now has 13 Grand Slam singles
titles, one shy of the record 14 Grand Slam singles titles held by Pete
Sampras. Federer has won the Australian Open three times (most recently in
2007), Wimbledon five times and the U.S. Open five times.
