Judge Suspends Guantanamo Bay Trials of 9/11 Suspects at Request of President Barack Obama

In one of his first acts as President, Barack Obama requested that the trials held at Guantanamo Bay be suspended while the process was reviewed. That request was honored and now the trial of five men accused over the 9/11 attacks has been suspended.

The suspension comes despite the Khalid Sheikh Mohammed’s admittance of guilt in the September 11 attacks. Mohammed is believed to be the mastermind behind the attacks that killed nearly3,000 people in 2001.

Mohammed opposed the suspension of the trial as did three other men who were standing trial over the attacks. A fifth man accused of playing a role in the attacks was in favor of the suspension.
